Star of Eagle Eye Joins Cast of Controversial Movie Gitmo

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) October 3, 2008 - Grand Slam Pictures announced today that it has attached Anthony Azizi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0044318/)to star in the new movie Gitmo (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1105351/) which is scheduled to shoot in November. Anthony Azizi can currently be seen in the movie Eagle Eye, playing the role of Ranim Khalid. Eagle Eye grossed $29.2 million domestically in its first weekend of release.

"Anthony is one of the finest actors around, and one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood. I think after Gitmo, the secret will be out," says Daniel Wilson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1649016/), who is the writer/director and producer of Gitmo. Gitmo is the provocative, fictional story of a top American interrogator sent to a Guantanamo-like detention center to interrogate the so-called #4 man in Al Qaeda, Hassan Ahmed. Azizi will play Hassan Ahmed.

Other attachments include Paula Garcés (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0305519/) who was last seen as Maria in the Harold and Kumar movies, and is currently featured in the critically-acclaimed television show The Shield on the FX Network. Also joining the cast is attorney/actress Vicki Roberts (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2399449/) playing the part of a military lawyer. "I'm thrilled to be a part of this great adventure," said Roberts, who is sure to bring authenticity and acuity to her role. "Court hearings, whether in the form of judicial proceedings or military tribunals, can be ugly, and there should be no sugar-coating of that reality," she stated.

Academy Award nominated actor Gary Busey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/) is also in talks to take a lead role, as is Sayed Badreya (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0046223/), who was most recently seen in Iron Man as the diabolical Abu Bakaar, and soon to be seen as Saddam Hussein in Oliver Stone's W.

"I've promised our financiers an international cast of some of the finest actors working today and I think we are well on our way," says Wilson. He also says he is in early talks with several other stars, but declined to say whom until talks had progressed further.

Grand Slam is fast-tracking towards a November shoot of Gitmo. The budget for the movie is $3.3 million and Wilson is in negotiations with a variety of financiers. "It's a bit early to start building the buzz, but the world needs to know what some claim is really going on at Guantanamo and similar detention centers around the world," concludes Wilson. "To the extent this fictional movie generates discussion and potential reform, it's a perfect blending of the worlds of entertainment and reality."
