Free Clef, User-friendly Open Source Music Notation Software Released
Recife, Brazil (PRWEB) February 12, 2008 -- Free Clef project released the first version of its notation software. The application aims to provide an easy and free way for musicians to create, edit and distribute sheet music files.
It's common to hear musicians complaining about how difficult it is to use the famous notation applications. And that's not their only concern. Hundreds of features that they don't use often translate in expensive products, costing hundreds of dollars.
On the other hand, the idea behind Free Clef is that it should be easy to use, allowing any musician to create music score files in minutes. It's a handy and lightweight notation editor that uses the standard MusicXML format. Free Clef is written in C++, using the free wxWidgets API, designed to run in multiple platforms such as Microsoft Windows XP and Vista, Linux and MacOS.
Free Clef project, is an initiative of D'Accord Music Software (http://www.daccordmusic.com), the Brazilian software company that developed iChords (http://www.ichords.com), an acclaimed application that opens an MP3 and extracts its harmony (chords).
Its development was supported by the Brazilian Counsel of Technology and Scientific Development (CNPq), through the RHAE Innovation program. Researchers from the Federal University of Pernambuco (CIn-UFPE) Computer Music Group also collaborated to create the application.
The project aims to be the main free notation software and welcomes community collaboration. Software developers can join the project to improve it, implementing new features. Musicians, designers and enthusiasts can also be valuable members.
